Electroencefalography (EEG)
Electroencephalography is a neurophysiological test recording electrical activity (bioelectrical potentials) of different parts of the brain. Brain activity (thinking, decision making, memory
processes, etc.) is mediated by the transmission of nerve impulses between nerve cells.
This is accompanied by changes in voltage that can be registered using electrodes placed on the surface of the skull. Signals from the electrodes are transmitted to the electroencephalograph, which
is processed and then draws on paper or on screen EEG curve. Tests used to diagnose brain impairment - epilepsy, sleep disorders, disorders of consciousness, tumor, brain injury, and the
like.
EEG recording we find the presence of four basic rhythms of different frequency, a kind of brain activity: alpha, beta, delta and theta. Alpha activity is at a frequency of 8-13 Hz, which prevails
at the closed eyes and relax. Beta 14-30 Hz frequency corresponds to a prevalent with open eyes, concentration and cognitive activities. Theta (4-7 Hz) and delta (0.5-3 Hz) appear especially during
deep sleep.
Electroencephalographic examination is performed lying down, at a standstill. Patient's head is attached to a special cap with electrodes, which is coated with conductive gel, and on the
instructions of doctors or nurses are gradually recorded brain activity during open and closed eyes, as deep breathing and during photostimulation (light flashes). Current testing takes twenty to
thirty minutes. On examination does not need special training, is painless and safe
Electromyography (EMG)
This is one of the investigative techniques that help doctors evaluate the functional status of the locomotor system and its innervation, rolišit different types of neuromuscular diseases.
If the doctor used to investigate cutaneous sensing electrodes, so the method is absolutely painless. Needle electrode is inserted into the muscle. The introduction of needle electrodes into the
muscle injection almost no pain, because the electrodes are very thin. Thinner than conventional hypodermic needles. Before the examination is not needed any special training. You normally eat,
drink and use common drugs.
